Camps

We hold three types of summer camps: camps for new fencers, camps for novice fencers, and camps for competitive athletes. See below for descriptions or email us at tim@presidiofencing.com for more information.

'Learn to Fence' Day Camps

Do your children like the sword fights in movies? Do they have more fun swinging the cardboard tubes from the Christmas wrapping paper than they do opening their presents?

Presidio Fencing Club will be holding youth day camps to introduce your boys and girls to the sport of fencing in a fun-filled environment. We will play games to develop coordination and self-confidence while learning the ins and outs of one of the oldest events in the modern Olympic games. By the final day of the camp, we will hold a tournament.

Campers should wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes as they will spend a good portion of each day exercising. They should also bring a water bottle and a lunch. All fencing equipment will be provided.

'Training' Day Camps

This camp is for fencers who want to work on their technical and bouting skills. Participants must already have some basic fencing experience. This is not a camp for those who have never fenced before. Time will be spent each day sparring and rehearsing technique in groups and privately with a coach. The camp will end with a competition for fencers from around the Central Coast. It is an ideal camp for children currently enrolled in our Youth Fencing program, as well as for those who want to take a second camp.

'Conditioning' Day Camps

This camp is for competitive fencers aged 12-16 who want to get in shape for the 2010-2011 season. We will spend ample time on strength training, drilling, and sparring. All campers will receive multiple private lessons in an intensive week meant to shake off the rust from the off-season. Campers must own their own electrical equipment. Consider this a pre-season training for our Junior Olympic class.
